I’m no fan of An Taoiseach Micheál Martin and I did think that the start of his speech was a bit corny. However, by the end I felt it was the best government speech I’ve heard for a long time. Maybe it was the message, maybe it was the nationalistic theme and maybe it was even the man himself but I have to admit I was a bit emotional by the end…
Spring is coming and I don’t know if I’ve ever looked forward to one as much as I’m looking forward to this one.
Humans are social beings and we Irish are more social than most.
As we look forward to this Spring
we need to see each other again,
we need to see each other smile,
we need to sing again.

I don’t think I have looked forward to spring as much as I have this time either, two years is a long time to put your life on hold, more so when there seems no end to it – no light at the end of the tunnel. Sadly we seem to be leaping from the frying pan into the fire, the economy in tatters, inflation through the roof, unemployment rising………. I think the governments had to ease up on the restrictions or there would have been a violent reaction from the public, maybe not coming out only the streets as in Europe but certainly at the ballot box, and that has struck fear into the politicians. Whatever, the public is taking their own lives into their own hands once more.

With Threewheels here. I’m a little suspicious of the timing, coinciding neatly as it does with the centenary.
We’re all tired of it by now of course, so I hope this time it works, and we just accept it and move on.
But it’s not over til the world is vaccinated and the major parties in government voted against the TRIPS waiver, and to me, that is simply unforgivable.
But roll on spring! That’s something to look forward to alright.
