My Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐
An incredibly intense and powerful depiction of a disastrous expedition to climb Everest in 1996. More than worthwhile watching but as well as an overwhelming sense of sadness it also made me angry that anyone with family could put themselves in such a dangerous situation for what amounts to vanity. Even those that survived have been horribly physically and mentally scarred.

Good film. Captures the hubris of the whole thing, and doesn’t shirk how damaging to the locale the industry of Everest has become. Great cast, though I lost track of the number of times I wanted to punch Gyllenhaal’s character in the face…

most of the equipment carried up to the base of Everest never comes back down, it has become an enormous rubbish tip. (but as well as an overwhelming sense of sadness it also made me angry that anyone with family could put themselves in such a dangerous situation for what amounts to vanity.) I can not agree with you on this point, I have to hold my tong for I was in the RAF Mountian Rescue and I know that if the mountains were not as challenging as they were beautiful, then we would not have gone there. When you have done your first Paris – Brest – Paris, and survived, will your friends and family think you were mad and how stupid you were to put yourself through all that – and was it vanity or an adventure, for you? walking in other’s shoes.

The risk of death on PBP is minimal. Climbing Everest is inherently dangerous and death is a reality. That’s not fair on any family left behind. The final frame of the film shows a beautiful young teenage girl that was born without seeing her Dad who died unnecessarily on Everest. I can’t help feel sad and angry about that

I was a documentary of a later expedition that showed people dying and climber walking around them. Also Sherpas trying to get people to get up and walk down with them to no avail. The Sherpas eventually left them to die. It was heartbreaking.

Life Is Life it should always be your choice, so long as you are not putting anyone else’s life in danger by what you do, then that really should be your choice. I was not saying that PBP was as dangerous as climbing Everest, I was saying there is a challenge in both, the danger is something you accept or don’t. a challenge is not a vanity product, or at least should not be.
